WebI was reading about some of the early Christian heresies and one of the big issues, besides Christology, seems to be whether people can be forgiven for betraying the faith. The two I've been reading is Donatism and Novatianism. Given this, is the very heavy emphasis on forgiveness and redemption in Christianity a reaction to these "heresies"? WebHere Novatian shows that the Old Testament prohibitions regarding food are to be understood in a spiritual and not in a literal sense. In particular, it is the vices symbolized by impure animals that should be avoided. The taste of their flesh is not forbidden, but rather the flesh of sacrifice.
